OUR Team

Our business has always been, and continues to be, an artisan, family-operated enterprise. Over the years, we have grown to meet the evolving needs of our clients, becoming the largest group of bespoke carvers in the world led by a British Master Carver. In 2017, we deepened our resources and reach, by becoming part of the Merritt family of companies. Despite this growth, our artisan roots and family-oriented environment remain at the heart of what we do.

Today, our design and carving operations are guided and supervised by our founder, Ian Agrell, British Master Carver, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship. Meanwhile, Kate Agrell oversees our overall business and project management operations. Together, they lead a dedicated team that includes design and engineering specialists, operational resources, and 20 classically trained carvers, all personally mentored by Ian.

IAN AGRELL

BRITISH MASTER CARVER

FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR OF CLASSICAL DECORATION

Born in England, founder Ian Agrell began modelling in clay as a child and in 1961 his love of working in three dimensions led him to study architectural woodcarving at the World renowned City & Guilds London Art School.

After graduating and becoming a full-time woodcarver, Ian produced carving for several high-end projects in the UK and was elected as a member of the British Master Carvers Association. The association is the oldest and most prestigious society of wood and stone carvers in the United Kingdom and represents the highest quality of work: professionally executed and delivered on time. As a Master Carver, Ian then established the business in the USA where his team soon gained the reputation of providing large volume hand carving for religious, residential and public buildings across the whole country.

Over sixty years later, Ian continues to work passionately to maintain the tradition of classical design and hand woodcarving. With well-established branches based in the USA and the UK, Agrell is a world-renowned workshop of unequalled experience in craftsmanship and delivery.

Ian also curated Ornapedia.org a library of images from the decorative arts industries. a free-to-use library of images of ornamental decoration and woodcarving including projects by Agrell and the decorative arts industries.
