Historical Room Design: Neoclassical

The design of this neoclassical-style room can be adapted to suite any bedroom, dining room, or library. For example, the cabinets can conceal a television and other gadgetry or replaced with a specifically designed bed and side tables. DETAIL: NEOCLASSICAL MIRROR FRAME CARVED IN WOOD Typical of the period, the pierced detail of this neoclassical-style mirror frame shows acanthus foliage supporting a swag of bellflowers.
DETAIL: CARVED NEOCLASSICAL PANEL This delicately carved low-relief panel features an urn with ram's head handles and flowing acanthus leaves.
DETAIL: NEOCLASSICAL BRACKET This carved wood bracket supports an urn or other ornament.
DETAIL: CARVED NEOCLASSICAL MIRROR FRAME This neoclassical-style mirror frame has an urn supported by two griffin-like creatures with acanthus tails. Swags of bellflowers hang from a carved wood skull.
DETAIL: CARVED NEOCLASSICAL-STYLE CREST Carved neoclassical-style cornice and acanthus moulding supporting a pierced acanthus cresting.
DETAIL: NEOCLASSICAL CONSOLE TABLE AND FRAME The lower section of the frame has flowing acanthus leaves. The self-supporting console table could be half round or rectangular.
DETAIL: CARVED FIRE SURROUND FRIEZE Above the acanthus panel are a series of wood-carved mouldings typical of the neoclassical period, such as lilies, flutes, and bead-and-reel.
DETAIL: CARVED NEOCLASSICAL WOOD PELMET This hand-carved wood pelmet has a crested moulding of acanthus above the typical fluted decoration of the period. Below, shields feature foliage motifs.
DETAIL: CARVED NEOCLASSICAL MIRROR FRAME The neoclassical-style overmantel has pierced acanthus-leaf cresting. Delicate bells and rosettes overlay the mirror, which is framed by lamb's tongue moulding.
DETAIL: NEOCLASSICAL CONSOLE TABLE This hand-carved chair rail features an egg-and-dart motif above a simple lamb's-tongue detail, while the console table shows an acanthus frieze and rosettes.
NEOCLASSICAL ROOM: NORTH ELEVATION The doors have raised panels and casing decorated with acanthus, rosettes and capitals. The cornice, chair rail and baseboard all feature ornamental mouldings.
NEOCLASSICAL ROOM: EAST ELEVATION This neoclassical-style bookcase has hand-carved acanthus cresting. It can be adapted to contain a TV or other gadgetry—or even converted into a desk.
NEOCLASSICAL ROOM: SOUTH ELEVATION The carved cornice and chair rail continue around the room, and the windows have Federal-style pelmets. We can supply the drapery and all the furniture shown.
NEOCLASSICAL ROOM: WEST ELEVATION This carved neoclassical fire surround and overmantel features a two-way mirror to conceal a TV. Delicate panels feature urns with low-relief acanthus leaves.
